What is happening

Having been the envy of South Asia, the Sri Lankan people have taken hit upon hit from a 30-year civil war to the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami, the Covid pandemic and now the unprecedented financial crisis, which has resulted in the inability to pay for basic foods, fertilisers, fuels, and medicines, leaving devastation beyond imagination.

In response to this humanitarian crisis which is causing untold suffering to its people - especially the poor and vulnerable children, Sri Lankans abroad led by the Association of Sr Lankan Professionals in the UK ('APSL UK') and their friends, are raising funds to provide much needed humanitarian aid in the form of food and medicines.

As part of this effort we are organising a sponsored walk called:

walk4lanka

Location : Farmoor Reservoir, Oxfordshire OX2 9NS

Date & time : Sunday 25th September 2022, from 10.00 am

About the sponsored walk: There are three different walks to suit all ages and abilities to choose from:

• Farmoor Countryside walk: Suitable for the more energetic, this is a moderately challenging route. It takes in rural footpaths and the banks of the River Thames, wetland and mixed woodland. The perimeter trail : Around 6.4km loop and takes between 1 h 50 mins to 2 hrs to complete.
• Farmoor Reservoir walk: For the less energetic, there are two easier walking routes on the tarmac of the reservoir banks:
  • Long walk ( full circle) around around the Reservoirs 1 and 2: This is approximately 4.1 miles / 5.8 km and takes about 1 hr 40mins.
  • Short walk (half circle) around Reservoir 1: This is approximately 1.7 miles / 2.74km and takes about 45mins.
